Sonya Thomas is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, bringing experience from a vast array of private, non-profit and inpatient settings. She has worked with a broad spectrum of children (8+), teens, adult individuals, families and couples. Sonya graduated from Langston University with a Masters degree in Education, and earned a second Masters degree from the University of Oklahoma in Human Relations.
Sonya works with children, adolescents, adult individuals, couples, and families. She specializes in assessing and treating depression, anxiety, behavioral concerns, family of origin complications, parenting concerns, domestic violence, trauma, substance abuse, relationship concerns, ADHD, life transitions, stress, grief and more. Sonya is an active and empathetic listener, utilizing an eclectic set of techniques based upon the ideals of unconditional positive regard for each individual.
Sonya’s therapeutic approach includes a variety of evidence-based practices that are solution-focused and trauma-informed. She is a strong proponent of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), an evidence based modality which helps individuals gain greater insight into their thoughts, related emotions and unconscious patterns of behavior. By incorporating CBT in sessions, Sonya helps her clients improve this understanding, ultimately charting a path towards greater wellbeing and fulfillment.
