As a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate, Rachel Barnes has a passion for working with children, adolescents and adult individuals. She believes in the importance of creating a safe, nonjudgmental space in the counseling room, and strives to actively engage her clients throughout the counseling process to ensure personally tailored care.
Rachel is well-versed in treating individuals with a multitude of concerns. These include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, addictions, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, abuse, dissociation, low self-esteem, ADHD, life transitions, sleep disruption, behavioral concerns, mood disorders, and more. Rachel enjoys working with a variety of populations and client concerns.
Rachel utilizes a strengths-based, collaborative approach in her counseling sessions. She is passionate about continued learning, and has pursued additional training for integrating neuroscience into the treatment of stress, trauma, anxiety, substance abuse and depression. She is currently working towards becoming a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC).
Rachel brings a multitude of diverse work experiences, with former roles in academia (Child and Family Laboratory, UT-Austin Texas), a drug and alcohol treatment center (Odyssey House, Houston, Texas), outpatient mental health (SMU Center for Family Counseling, Dallas, TX), as well as private practice (The Counseling Place, Richardson, TX).
Rachel is a supportive and engaged clinician who strives to make the counseling process not only warm and nurturing but also highly effective. You can trust her to help you navigate even the most challenging situations.
As an LPC-Associate, Rachel is actively working towards completing the requirements for full LPC licensure in the State of Texas. She is working under the supervision of Blank Slate Therapy clinician Megan Shelton, LPC-Supervisor.
In her time away from the office, Rachel enjoys going for long walks, running, trying new restaurants, spending time with friends and family, and all things Texas football! She hopes to meet you soon.
